Every year on 15 October, we celebrate World Students’ Day. The date is the birth anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, and the United Nations recognised it as World Students’ Day in 2010 to honour a man who spent his life believing in young people.
Dr. Kalam grew up in a modest home in Rameswaram. As a boy, he delivered newspapers to help his family. He went on to become a celebrated scientist, a key figure in India’s space and missile programmes, and the 11th President of India. Even after all of that, he preferred to be remembered as a teacher.
At Gitanjali International School Bowrampet, we think his life offers lessons that no textbook can fully capture. Here are five that every student can start using today.
-
Dream Big, Then Do the Work
Dr. Kalam often spoke about the power of dreaming, but he never stopped at dreaming. He believed dreams must turn into thoughts, and thoughts into action.
For students, this means writing down what you want to become, then taking one small step toward it this week. It could be reading a book on a subject you love or practising a skill for ten minutes every day. Big goals are built from small, consistent efforts.
-
Stay Curious, Always
Young Kalam was fascinated by birds in flight, and that simple curiosity eventually shaped his path towards aeronautics. He never lost the habit of asking “why” and “how.”
In our classrooms, we welcome questions, even the unusual ones. A child who asks questions is a child who is truly learning. So, the next time you are unsure about something, do not hide it. Ask.
-
Treat Failure as a Teacher
In 1979, the first launch of India’s SLV-3 rocket did not succeed, and Dr. Kalam was the project director. The team regrouped, learned from what went wrong, and the next launch in 1980 placed the Rohini satellite in orbit.
He is often remembered for saying that failure should be seen as a “First Attempt in Learning.” Every student who has struggled through a tough exam, missed a team selection or fumbled a presentation can take comfort from this. One bad result does not define you. What you do next does.
-
Respect Hard Work and Discipline
Dr. Kalam was known for his long hours, simple lifestyle and deep focus. He understood that talent opens the door, but discipline keeps you in the room.
Good habits are quietly powerful: finishing homework on time, revising a little every day, respecting teachers and valuing everyone’s time. These small routines build the confidence to face board exams and competitive tests later.
-
Use Your Knowledge to Serve Others
Perhaps the most beautiful part of Dr. Kalam’s life was his humility. He spent countless hours speaking to school children because he truly believed that learning is meant to lift others, not just ourselves.
We encourage our students to help a classmate who is struggling, take part in community activities and think about how their skills can make the world a little better.
Finding the Right School for Your Child
Parents often tell us that these values are exactly what they are looking for. If you are searching for a CBSE and Cambridge school in Bowrampet, we invite you to look beyond the brochure and see how a school actually nurtures character.
A question we hear all the time is “CBSE vs Cambridge, which is better for my child?” There is no single right answer.
- CBSE gives a structured, nationally recognised syllabus and a strong base for entrance exams like JEE and NEET.
- Cambridge (IGCSE)emphasises application, analysis and global exposure, which suits students who enjoy exploring ideas deeply.
Our campus offers both pathways, so families can choose based on how their child learns and what they hope to achieve. Many parents who visit us are also looking for the best CBSE school in Bowrampet, and we are happy to show you our classrooms, teaching approach and student activities in person.
