ASSOCIATE STATE ARCHAEOLOGIST - CULTURAL RESOURCES DIVISION / ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH PROGRAM

The reporting location for this position is at the State Archaeological Collections Research Facility (SACRF) in McClellan, Ca. The Associate State Archeologist will work under the general direction of the Senior State Archeologist to perform the more difficult and varied work in archaeological investigation and cultural resource management. The incumbent works within a team at SACRF and related programs to support 280 park units across 21 districts. This position is eligible for telework.
This Associate State Archaeologist manages collections and advances research in the State Archaeological Collections Research Facility to ensure one of the State’s most extensive, significant and diverse collection of artifacts are secure, organized, accessible, and repurposed through scholarly research, exhibition, and other appropriate uses. The primary and immediate responsibility is supporting Tribes with the repatriation of archaeological collections as required by NAGPRA and CalNAGPRA. The incumbent collaborates with Tribes, districts, and other institutions holding archaeological collections controlled by State Parks to facilitate repatriation and may participate in on-site collections support, ancestral site/archeological visits, survey, excavations, evaluations, and monitoring of cultural resources statewide.
